Jenna Allen DNP, FNP-BC

Dr. Jenna Allen, DNP, FNP-BC, RN, is a Clinical Instructor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing and a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Her clinical and educational expertise is grounded in more than a decade of nursing practice spanning adult critical care settings.

Dr. Allen teaches undergraduate nursing students in clinical, simulation, and classroom environments. She is committed to developing clinical judgment, situational awareness, and patient safety competencies that prepare nursing students to provide safe, evidence-based care in increasingly complex healthcare settings. Her teaching emphasizes active learning, reflective practice, and the integration of theoretical knowledge into real-world clinical decision-making.

In addition to her academic role, Dr. Allen serves as a Nurse Practitioner and graduate student preceptor at the University of Michigan Student-Run Free Clinic, where she provides primary care services to uninsured adults while mentoring future advanced practice nurses. Her clinical practice and educational philosophy are centered on patient-centered care, collaborative practice, and improving healthcare outcomes through effective communication and teamwork.

Dr. Allen's scholarly interests focus on situational awareness as a strategy for improving safety in healthcare and nursing education, including its potential role in addressing workplace violence and promoting safer clinical learning environments. She is also interested in interprofessional education and collaborative practice models that enhance student learning and improve patient outcomes across healthcare disciplines.
